Happy New Year! Well so far 2013 is off to a great start in my sewing world! I finished 3 projects. This is the 2nd time I've made this top. It's 3 easy pieces and fits so well. The fabric is from one of my NY garment district excursions. It's a cashmere knit.
I remember seeing this pattern when it first came out (New Look 6051) and it didn't jump out at me until I saw Erica B's review of it. I'm so glad I made it. It was fast and easy! The fabric is a silky print from JoAnns. I wore it today with a brown turtleneck, brown tights with my brown suede boots. I received lots of compliments. It felt good wearing such a vibrant color on this very cold day!
This beautiful fabric was sent to me by a co-worker who was stationed in Africa. He picked it up in Ghana. This is one of six prints that he sent me. The caftan pattern is an out-of-print Simplicity. I cut it out and took it to retreat, but it didn't get sewn. The pattern's correct, it took less than hour to serge the entire garment. The neck line took some more time since I added a trim. I sewed a black trim around the neckline. It has slits at the bottom side seams. It's soooo comfy.
mannequin is making neck look awfully large, the neck actually fits snugger than that on me.... |
Well that's it for my first post, not too shabby! LOL Happy Sewing!

Lovely garments. Happy New Year.
You do beautiful work. I love each garment. Thanks so much for sharing.
@ Sheila & Melanie, thanks darlings!
Nice work! I love the knit pattern. What is the number? That style of turtleneck works for me.
Thanks
The knit top pattern is out-fo-print (Simplicity 8809).
Wow, look at all your new cool clothes! What a good start to a new year. Oh, we do love those animal prints! I don't think they will ever go out of style. Nice sewing.
Love the green fabric, tee!!!
I need to sew for myself more.
Thanks for stopping in.
Happy 2013!
This is my slow season, so I'm getting in as much for me as I can...proms and weddings are just around the corner! :)
Such lovely work you do Tee. Thank you for visiting me over on Retired in Alaska! According to your list we have a lot in common. My husband retired in 2001 and we moved from CA to Alaska. I have 2 pretty much grown up grandsons. I will be popping in from time to time to check up on what you are making.
Nan
Girl, you are ROCKIN that outfit!! :-). Love that fabric. I can just feel how comfortable it is just by looking @ it. :-) As for the store (Bruce Variety), it's in Bethesda. I'm sending you a PM in a few with the address. It would be WORTH the drive. Lots of fabric would probably work for your beginners at the Baltimore sewing lounge (they had loads of cottons, but other fabrics) when I went
I LOVE the animal print top! Love!!!
What a great start to the new year! Very lovely items!
WOW! I hope you made sure to grab some big brassy necklaces to pair with the green caftan. You look great!
@ Ren I will try that look, thanks
