Here Comes The Bride...

I had the pleasure of making a friend's gown.  She was married August 15.  It was a lovely ceremony, and I must say she was a BEAUTIFUL bride.  She made my gown come to life!!!  I'm so happy to share in photos my journey in making her gown.  Enjoy!

Here is the inspiration pic

lots of bobbins, all ready to sew!

As I posed earlier...I used Vogue 2931 and drafted the mermaid bottom fuller.  Here's the bride at her first fitting after the muslin.  She had lost 12 pounds so I had to re-fit.

This is the gown after the re-fitting. The gown is a silk satin from Manhattan fabrics in NY with a lace overlay.  Believe it or not the lace is from Joann Fabrics bridal collection.  I underlined the lace with the satin and hand basted around the edge of each piece and treated them like one.  The gown is fully lined  and I attached  petticoat tulle to make the bottom stand out.  I hand hemmed the gown after sewing horsehair braid to the hemline.  I am very pleased with the outcome!

You may be wondering, what the heck is she standing on!  Well that's my newest sewing gadget.  I saw this on another seamstresses' blog and new I had to have one.  I was very fortunate to have my sewing friend's husband build this pedestal for me!!!  I love the handle he put on the step/stool.  It makes it very easy to carry.   I have to paint it and cover the top with carpet.  It makes pinning and hemming gowns so easy, really saves my knees from wear and tear!!!  My husband rolls it into the dining room when not in use.

My new pedestal!  I love it!!!

Here I'm hand basting the lace overlay to the satin front.  Because the front was not cut on the fold I had to treat this lace piece differently.  I didn't want the lace to have a center seam so I cut the lace on the bias and attached it after the front center seam was sewn and then treated it as one piece.  It turned out great!!

Here she is all complete!  Do you call your garments he/she?

This is the gown foundation....not sure what happened to the rest of the inside pics of this.....I made the foundation out of muslin and cotton satin.  It is boned at all seams and has a waist sty and separate zipper.  I made sure that gown didn't budge on her!!!!

This is the cape...it's made out of a ivory sheer silk gaza from Mood Fabrics!!!  I sewed the center seam and gather and pleated the neckline to fit, then added the sequined trim.  I hemmed it with my serger threaded with wolly nylon.

May they live happily ever after!!!!  Amen!!!!

Loving the cape. What a nice way to add a bit of modesty for the church ceremony and still get the party pizazz after!

Stunning! I love the idea of the cape. There is something about strapless gowns in a church that bothers me and this is such a lovely solution. Beautiful work, Tee.

Stunning dress with that cape...I hope you got the platform inspiration from my blog...it sure saves the knees and back and it lets the brides turn like on a Lazy Susan and then roll away when not in use...fabulous for you! I have been seeing some mighty nice fabrics at JoAnn's too!

Stunning dress and such a gorgeous cape for the church service. Hope you got the platform idea from my blog...it is so handy to have the bride turn like on a Lazy Susan and save your knees. Then just roll it away for storage. The lace overlay is so exquisite! I have seen some pretty nice fabrics at JoAnn's too!Great job!

I also followed Mrs Mole's link and the dress and cape are lovely. You've done a beautiful job!
I also copied the idea of the platform from Mrs Mole, and it has been an amazing success. No more crawling around on the floor pinning hems: I can do it sitting on a chair, and the client can see everything clearly. It's such a good idea (and Mrs Mole has many!).
