First prom of the year!!!

I've been very busy sewing prom gowns.  Six in total.  This is the first, a junior prom!  My client, Amber said she wanted to be "elegant and classy."  My kind of girl!  So I drafted this little number in my Wildginger program.  A halter bodice and circle skirt.  I used a red stretch taffeta and a Joann fabric Casa brand poly organza for the overlay.   I love the stretch taffeta fabric.....it is so easy to sew, with just the right amount of stretch.  It holds its shape and does not wrinkle easily.  My source for this fabric is found here. :  https://www.onlinefabricstore.net/orange-stretch-taffeta-fabric-.htm
It comes in many colors!
When I print out the pdf pattern I don't cut the paper.  I trace onto medical exam paper and then use it for the pattern.  I make a mock-up out of muslin for the first fitting.  Wildginger teaches to make a sloper first.  I skip this step and make a mock up instead.  I mark my changes using a sharpie and the muslin becomes my pattern.  For the circle skirt, I decided not to waist my muslin fabric and taped the exam table paper together for the fitting.  I worked like a charm!
The waist looks a little high, that's because the dress is not sitting at the correct position at her neckline.
Doesn't she look lovely!!!!!!

She was such a sweetie!!!!  I've known her since she was a baby.

Back to the Sewing Center five more gowns to make!  One very special gown for my GD who is a senior this year!

Happy Sewing!!!!!

Last prom gown of the year!

I call this gown "buttercup"  This is the inspiration.

Aajah's getting pretty!!!!

This is the foundation.  I constructed it with the poly dupioni and muslin.  I added gross grain ribbon to the edge and attached the hook and eyes.  I sometimes add a zipper instead, I think I like it with a zipper better.  This really keeps a strapless gown secure.

My label is sewn to the foundation.
I modified Butterick 4731. The gown was made with Casa Satin from Joanns...to prevent wrinkles and to give it more body I lined the gown with a poly dupioni.  The lower skirt is Casa with a Chiffon overlay.  It's lined with a regular cling free poly lining.  I attached gathered petticoat netting to the lower outside edge of the lining to give it a little lift.

This is the final gown of the prom season.   Now for some me time sewing, a bridesmaid gown, and a wedding gown for August.  Thanks for stopping by!

The Grand Finale

Well this is the last prom gown of the season.  This is my niece, Brianna.  She looks like a million bucks in the Kelly Rowland knock off gown.  I used a black knit from Metro Textiles for the gown.  The sheer mesh inserts are from Vogue Fabrics.

Prom No 2

Well this pretty lady is Natei (pronounced Na-Tay).  She designed her gown complete with the heart cut out in the middle!  I think she looks lovely!  She really like her gown, too.  The dress is an oriental brocade (A Fabric Place) which I fused with light weight fusible interfacing.   I then underlined the entire dress and sewed it together, all seam edges were serged.  Fusing the fashion fabric really helps with wrinkling and give it a great body!  The skirt is made out of two layers of iridescent royal blue and gold organza  (A Fabric Place) cut on the bias and rolled edged with a fish line hem.   It seems that the top row fell a bit from when I first did them, but it still looks great!   One more prom gown to go, until then~thanks for dropping by!
no, this isn't her prom date, lol

I inner skirt is lined with the Oriental brocade~
